"Head of Security Architecture
Location: Cardiff or Remote
Reports to: CTO
Salary: Competitive, based on experience, plus excellent Admiral benefits (including company shares and more)
Introduction
The Head of Security Architecture has overall responsibility for the Security Architectural vision, roadmap and standards for Admiral and will ensure these are adopted.
About the Team
The Security Architecture team is transitioning from the CISO to the CTO with an increased focus on working collaboratively with the wider Architecture function to deliver a world class IT estate that will help differentiate Admiral. The successful candidate will need to leverage previous experience to make this a reality, growing the team and providing day-to-day direction, as well as setting the strategic vision.
Job Purpose & Main Duties
The successful candidate will ensure:
- There is an up to date view of Admiral's security architecture, with issues identified and remediation plans put in place aligned to the organisational security strategy and objectives
- Processes are in place to ensure that our security architecture remains current and aligns with industry best practices
- A collaborative working relationship with the wider IT Architecture function is established
- Security Architects are appropriately embedded in all change initiatives so that security architecture is a core part of the design process to enable a Secure by Design approach
- The architectural governance processes at Admiral are extended to include security architecture
- That a security architectural strategy is defined and is in line with business requirements
- A Security Service catalogue is maintained in line with known risks and evolving threats
- Effective overall management of the Security Architecture team is in place, including demand management of Security Architects
- That the multi-year vision for security architectural strategy is in place and is aligned with the wider IT strategy, including the adoption of a “cloud first” approach
Experience and Qualifications Required
The Head of Security Architecture will be an experienced Security professional with extensive technical, strategic and management experience. The individual should have the appropriate level of experience and gravitas to report to the CTO and interact at C-level.
Essential Skills
- Strong technical grounding
- Extensive architectural / security architectural experience
- Thorough understanding of security risk with the ability to make pragmatic business-focussed decisions
- Strong focus on architectural governance and its implementation
- Technical knowledge of security, with the ability to demonstrate practical application of controls
- Strong attention to detail, with excellent analytical skills
- Ability to communicate constructively and confidently and work well with others
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with senior stakeholders, including board members, with strong skills in influencing outcomes and influencing long-term change
- Strong people management skills, with good emotional intelligence skills to enable a successful team
- A firm grasp of the potential threats a FTSE100 financial organisation faces and the potential compensating controls for those threats
Highly Desirable
- Cloud Security strategy development experience (GCP/AWS/Azure)
- Degree in a technical / security discipline or equivalent experience
- Experience of designing and implementing security in an Agile delivery environment
- Experience on the use of threat modelling to influence architectural designs
