Graduate Rating Programmer

We are looking for graduates with at least a 2:1 Honours degree or equivalent qualification in Maths (or another subject that has a strong numeric focus) to join the Rating team within the Pricing and Analytics area of our multi-award winning business at its global headquarters in the centre of Cardiff.

Our Rating Team

The Rating Team is responsible for maintaining the rating engine for our Personal Lines Motor and Household products such as Car, Van, Home, and Landlord Insurance. We work closely with our Pricing and Analytics areas to understand their requirements and ensure that we carry out changes in a timely fashion. Our role is crucial in ensuring the customer journey is not affected.

What to expect from this role?

Based within the Pricing and Analytics area you will spend the majority of your time making changes to our rating structure using a software package called Ratabase.  You will be part of a team that is responsible for ensuring that any required changes to the rating structure are implemented correctly and the appropriate amount of testing is completed.

As your system knowledge grows, the expectation will be for you to take on more responsibility and become more independent when carrying out the investigation, building, and testing of increasingly complex changes.

Essential skills and experience:

• Minimum 2:1 in a maths (or a similar subject with a numerical focus)
• A logical mindset - the ability to combine analytical thinking based on numbers, together with common sense and ingenuity
• Attention to detail – the ability to review and write concise documents
• Time management – the ability to prioritise work and manage your workload
• Communication – have confidence in liaising with other members in the team and other departments both verbally and in writing
• Experience in using Microsoft products such as Excel and Word
• Coding aptitude or experience

Desirable skills and experience:

• Any coding experience from school, university, or hobby would be beneficial (i.e. VBA, SQL, Python, Java)

While this role is based in our head office in Cardiff, due to the impact of COVID-19 the Rating Team is working remotely. It's likely that you will initially be required to work from home, and we will provide you with everything you need to work comfortably.

However going forward, we anticipate that this role will allow you to work partially remotely on a more permanent basis.
