We have an opportunity for an experienced Data Manager to join one of the fastest-growing parts of the Admiral Group.

The Data Product Squad is a new team being established to continuously modernise the data platform so that end-users have all the latest and greatest tools to have access to data that they can trust.

The Role Holder's Main Responsibilities

The Data Manager will be responsible for creating, promoting, and managing a data framework that ensures that the data is accurate, timely, compliant, and secure.  This will involve:

  • Establishing and embedding an organisation-wide operating model
  • Creating processes and artifacts that people can follow
  • Working with our compliance and risk teams to ensure the framework we put in place is compliant and safe by design
  • Working with data providers and data consumers to ensure roles and responsibilities are understood

The Role's Objectives

Business partnering| Working with the business to understand their challenges with using the data and translating these into improvements that we need to make to the data model or platform. This will also include working closely with our DPO.

Tools and processes| Ensure that the tools and processes we need for end-to-end data management are in place, e.g. data dictionary, data inventories, policies, etc.

Operating model| Create and embed an operating model across the entire organisation that makes it clear where the roles and responsibilities sit in managing data.

Data quality| Be a point of contact to trace through any data quality issues and ensure these are resolved.

Governance and compliance| Build a governance framework that ensures we have a compliant (GDPR, Data Protection, etc), safe, secure, and accurate set of data but is Agile and Automated by design.  This will include the below duties:

  • Inform and advise on data protection laws and internal policies 
  • Maintain data protection policies and procedures 
  • Monitor compliance with data protection laws and internal policies 
  • Ensure ongoing maintenance of records required, to demonstrate data protection compliance 
  • Supervise and advise on data protection privacy impact assessments 
  • Manage an assurance program and related audits 
  • Support the data incident response and data breach notification procedures and ensure compliance with relevant requirements
  • Provide updates on the data protection compliance programme in AFSL to the Group DPO, the Risk Management Committee(s), and those of other subsidiaries as appropriate 

About You

You are curious and methodical, and someone who enjoys fixing things.  You don't believe control means another governance forum and you're a believer that technology and good workflows create the safest environments. You love data and see the value it brings to the organisation and are passionate about creating a culture that values data.

Skills

  • Deep understanding of Data Management principles such as the DAMA Data Management model and the DCAM Data Maturity Assessments
  • Technical capabilities to create processes and data dictionaries
  • Abilities to create a framework that supports self-sustaining continuous improvement towards a business objective
  • Good understanding of data technologies
  • Good understanding of Data Ops, ML/AI Ops
  • Evidential knowledge of data privacy legislation in the UK, including GDPR, and preferably including at least one of France, Italy, or Spain
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity risks, PCI DSS, and other information security standards 

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working as a Data Manager or associated field
  • Minimum of a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, or another technical field
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with technical and non-technical audiences and a desire to work within a fast-paced, dynamic team environment
  • Experience in managing data incidents and breaches 
  • Experience in leveraging Cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is advantageous 
  • Experience in Agile ways of working is advantageous is advantageous
  • Ideally, experience in a similar type of role in financial services or similar multinational businesses

Additional Information

In this role, you will work closely with our Data Engineers and Scientists and report to the Data Product Owner.

We’re a big believer in personal development and preparing you for success in this role as well as your next. We’ll provide a range of on-the-job training as well as other opportunities to learn all the key skills you’ll need.

Due to Covid, the whole Admiral Financial Services is working remotely. We will provide you with everything you need to work comfortably from home. We expect you to be working remotely for the foreseeable future, however, once it is safe to return to the office, we will have days when the whole team comes together to collaborate. You can decide if you want to come to the office between 2-5 days per week.

Salary, Benefits and Work-Life Balance
