Business Intelligence Analyst

We are looking for someone with a degree (or equivalent experience in a business intelligence/MI type role), who is keen to learn and develop for this exciting position based in Swansea.

This role will be based within the Van MI team, which has responsibility for the Management Information (MI) of areas beyond the Van Insurance department, including Ancillaries and Motor Product operations.

As a Business Intelligence Analyst, you will be responsible for supporting the Van, Ancillary, Motor Product operations and other business functions through the provision of reports, information and analysis to managers across the Group (don't worry if you don't know what these are yet - you will learn all about our business when you join!). You will be querying and wrangling the various data sources available, and performing analysis using statistical methods to gain insight from the data. 

Main Duties 

  • Responsible for providing regular reports for the management group and wider teams
  • Analysing and interpreting data for reporting purposes 
  • Managing and prioritising information requests, including documentation of developed reports 
  • Translate business questions to data and analysis requirements
  • Carry out data mining, analysis, visualisation, and present findings
  • Administer and be primarily responsible for the reporting infrastructure in SAS, SQL Server, and Microstrategy reporting tools as appropriate 
  • Act as an internal consultant using specialist knowledge, skills, and experience to advise on the development and implementation of analysis, processes, and business initiatives to meet business needs 
  • Continually upgrade the Business Intelligence / Reporting infrastructure in line with business requirements 
  • Liaise with staff from other business areas to establish reporting needs and deliver insightful and accurate information
  • Responsible for the timely delivery of regular and ad hoc reports 
  • Support the business by maintaining and developing a suite of reports 

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Be graduate-level or have equivalent commercial experience
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact directly with end-users at all levels
  • Be able to handle multiple tasks and creatively approach situations
  •  Be highly analytical and numerate
  • Have strong written and communication skills
  • Be able to deliver high-quality work within deadline
  • Have a flexible approach, highly motivated and willing to contribute and help support to areas outside direct responsibilities
  • Have the willingness to question processes to understand business needs

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience using SAS, SQL Server, and Advanced Excel skills
  • Working with large datasets 
  • Knowledge or experience of predictive analysis, forecasting, or statistical modelling 
  • Degree in Maths, Science, Engineering or Computer Science
